Recalling and conjuring moments, debuts, colors and textures, critical reactions, collections and breakthroughs, the narrator speaks English with a rich French accent. Maybe she’s one of Cardin’s longtime patrons; maybe she’s real; maybe she’s a vibrant figment of our imaginations. What her words do not tell us, photographs and film do. We see Cardin’s 1960s explorations of space-age shapes and materials, iconic motion picture clips and French landscapes. The film might even inspire the musing, “I am thinking of Pierre Cardin.”

The Savannah College of Art and Design is pleased to submit Ovation for Oscar, a documentary that chronicles the creation of the exhibition, Oscar de la Renta: His Legendary World of Style, as it was prepared exclusively for the SCAD Museum of Art by SCAD friend André Leon Talley. This intimate look behind the scenes reveals the nuances and sophistication of the demanding, deadline-oriented work of fashion photographers, white-gloved art handlers and discerning curators as they research, assess, mount and produce a major museum exhibition honoring the late designer, artist and cultural icon.

The 21-minute film was created by SCAD film and television alumni: producer Tyler Reid; director Ryan Curtis; editors Hanny Purnomo Boyer, Craig Boyer and Laura Minto; and director of photography Zach Graber. Among other recognition, this film was the received the Best Fashion Documentary award at the 2018 London Fashion Film Festival

SCAD-produced documentary Company C tells the singular career story of artist, designer, performer and SCAD alumnus Andrew Ondrejcak (B.F.A., performing arts, 2002). While the film opens with scenes from Ondrejcak’s original pop opera YOU US WE ALL, which made its American debut at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the tale starts far from New York.

We hear from a variety of people who have seen Ondrejcak’s creative genius firsthand, including professors and colleagues, who describe him as “Renaissance man.” His experience runs the gamut, from art directing set design for fashion photo shoots, to lecturing at art institutions such as MOMA, to writing off-off-Broadway avant-garde performances and more.

Commissioned by SCAD, the short film Guo Pei: Couture Beyond celebrates a landmark moment in global fashion — the designer’s first solo U.S. exhibition at SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film.

The fantastical imagery in Guo Pei: Couture Beyond marries the couturière’s otherworldly creations with natural wonder, evoking landscapes that exist only in the imagination. The narrative brings to life the resplendence of her exquisite designs, which successfully unite fine traditional craftsmanship and contemporary innovation.

Guo Pei’s masterpieces have the power to transport you into a dream, filling you with love, longing and light. Her introduction to America’s fashion cognoscenti is of universal significance and will continue to be for decades to come.
